On Friday, the judge signed the final decree for our adoption of Mateo. This means that we are close to coming home! On Tuesday, we will go to the Civil Registry to officially change Mateo's name from "Cristian Rivera Duarte" to MATEO FERNANDO COGUA. This change will be reflected on a new birth certificate. After that, we apply for Mateo's passport - Colombian passport. Then follows a physical exam with the doctor at the U.S. Embassy and applying for a Visa for Mateo to travel to the U.S. We should be finished with the entire process by the end of this week. Once we return to Omaha, we can apply for a U.S. passport for Mateo. Lucky little man gets dual citizenship!

Jaimie's parents are flying to Bogota next Saturday, February 9th. One of the main purposes of their visit is to accompany Jaimie and Mateo back to Omaha so that we aren't alone for the journey, but perhaps more importantly, this trip will give Jaimie's dad, Jim, the opportunity to see Colombia and meet Mateo's family here. Of course, I am so excited to have them come down and Mateo cannot wait to meet his grandparents! All four of us will return to Omaha on Monday, February 18.

El viernes pasado, el juez firmo la sentencia final de la adopción de Mateo. Esto significa que nos estamos acercando al poder irnos a casa! Este martes, tenemos que ir a la registraduría civil para cambiar oficialmente el nombre de Mateo de ser "Cristian Rivera Duarte" a Mateo Fernando Cogua. Este cambio se verá en un certificado de nacimiento nuevo. Después de eso, tenemos que sacarle el pasaporte colombiano a Mateo. Después un examen médico con un doctor en le embajada Americana y solicitar la visa para que Mateo pueda viajar a los Estados Unidos. Creemos que debemos haber terminado todo este proceso al final de esta semana. Una vez que estemos en Omaha, podremos solicitar el pasaporte americano de Mateo. Tiene mucha suerte este hombrecito al poder tener doble nacionalidad!

Los papas de Jaimie llegarán a Bogota el próximo sábado, febrero 9. Uno de los objetivos principales de su visita es el acompañar a Jaimie y a Mateo en el viaje de regreso a Omaha, pero quizás lo mas importante de este viaje es que Jim, el papa de Jaimie, tenga la oportunidad de conocer Colombia y toda la familia de Mateo acá. Claro, estoy muy emocionada de que ellos vengan y Mateo esta muy ansioso de conocer a sus abuelos! Todos nosotros volveremos a Omaha el Lunes (febrero 18)
