Mateos health - La salud de Mateo

We have a sick little baby... we didnt know until today when we took him to a pediatrician here in Bogota. This doctor was recommended to us by Liliana and Mauricio Cogua who have a little girl, Isabella, who is 6 months old.

The doctors name is Santa Maria, and she gave Mateo a general checkup and looked over his medical history from Los Pisingos. Mateo has an ear infection in both ears, bronchitis that could develop into child asthma, and a very snotty little nose. We were given strict instructions to keep him at home for the next 5 days while he gets better. In the meantime, we have to give him inhaler treatments every hour as well as some general pain medicine for his ears and for his cough.

Some of you know Jaimie well enough to know that recently I have been seeing a natural health doctor to help my body figure out how to funtion at its best. Through this experience, my view of traditional medicine has been challenged. However... being here and knowing how sick our little guy is, we decided it is best to just get him well, and we can go from there.

Mateo is really an angel. With all the medicine and treatments and him not feeling well at all, he doesnt complain or cry. When he feels his worst he has this cute little whimper that makes you want to make everything better instantaneously. So we do the best we can and give him all the hugs and kisses he could ask for and more.

Today Mateo had soup, banana and yogurt for lunch. The banana was a mess, but he loved it. We let him mash it all over the place. He started babbling while he ate and began to learn how to pick up food and bring it to his mouth.

Mateo is taking a little nap now. Please pray that he gets well very soon, and that he sleeps soundly (especially at night, last night included lots of cuddling and rocking to sooth him). Today we learned that Pisingos did not want us to receive him for another couple of days since he is so sick, but Amparo, bless her heart, insisted that we receive Mateo yesterday all the same and that he would be much better with his family. We wholeheartedly agree!

Tenemos un bebe enfermito, no lo sabíamos hasta que fuimos hoy al pediatra aquí en Bogotá. Este doctor fue recomendado por Liliana y Mauricio Cogua quienes tienen una bebe, Isabela, quien tiene 6 meses.
El doctor se llama Patricia Santamaría. Ella reviso a Mateo completamente y leyo la historia médica que nos entregaron en Los Pisingos. Mateo tiene una infección en ambos oídos, bronquitis que puede convertirse en asma infantil y la naricita muy congestionada. El doctor nos dio instrucciones específicas de tener a Mateo en casa los próximos 5 días mientras se mejora. Mientras tanto tenemos que darle tratamientos con un inhalador cada hora y también medicina para el dolor de sus oídos y la tos.
Algunos de ustedes conocen a Jaimie lo suficiente para saber que recientemente ha estado viendo un médico naturista que le está ayudando a que su cuerpo funcione normalmente. A través de esta experiencia, mi percepción sobre la medicina tradicional ha cambiado mucho. De todas maneras… estando aquí y sabiendo cuan enfermo esta nuestro bebe, hemos decidido que lo mejor es que él se mejore y después decidiremos…
Mateo es un ángel. Con toda la medicina y los tratamientos, el no se siente nada bien pero no se queja o llora. Cuando se siente muy mal, el tiene un quejidito que nos dan ganas de querer arreglar todo inmediatamente. Entonces nosotros hacemos todo lo que podemos y le damos muchos besos y abrazos, todos los que él nos quiera pedir.
Hoy, Mateo tomo sopa, comió banana y yogurt en el almuerzo. El banano fue un enmelocote, pero a él le encanto. Nosotros dejamos que lo untara por todos lados. El empezó a ¨hablarnos¨ mientras que lo alimentábamos y mientras el aprendía a coger la comida de la mesa y ponérsela en la boca. Mateo está tomando una siesta. Por favor oren para que Mateo se sienta bien pronto y para que duerma bien (especialmente en la noche, anoche tuvimos que abrazarlo y arrullarlo mucho para calmarlo). Hoy nosotros nos enteramos que Los Pisingos no querían entregarnos a Mateo por lo menos en un par de días más por lo que él se sentía enfermo, pero Amparo gracias a Dios, insistió en que recibiéramos a Mateo ayer y que seguramente se iba a mejorar más pronto con su familia. Nosotros estamos de acuerdo.
